OVERVIEW:
Strategically located along Massachusetts Avenue in the heart of Washington, D.C., the Royal Sonesta Capitol Hill transforms a prominent urban structure into a vibrant hospitality destination just steps from the U.S. Capitol and Union Station. Designed by Leo Daly (DC), the hotel blends the grandeur of the nation’s capital with the energy of the city’s art scene through thoughtfully curated interior spaces and architectural moments of discovery.
One of the most striking features within the hotel is a seven-story art installation created using Moz’s Hat Channel Wall Panel System. Printed on perforated metal panels, the installation depicts a vibrant segment of Pierre L’Enfant’s historic master plan of Washington, D.C. Spanning approximately 1,160 square feet, the monumental feature wall rises through the hotel’s interior and is further enhanced by natural light streaming through an overhead skylight.
Adjacent interior walls incorporate Moz’s Key Slot Wall Panel System, selected for its modular format and concealed fastening. Laser-cut Pebbles pattern panels in Classic Ivory Coarse finish are paired with solid panels in Classic Graphite Coarse finish, along with integrated vertical lighting that highlights the texture and pattern of the metal surfaces. In total, over 5,300 square feet of Moz panels were installed throughout the project, reinforcing the hotel’s artistic identity and connection to the city’s architectural heritage.
