Móz Designs Transforms Transit Centers into Design Destinations
Móz Designs teamed up with RS&H to revamp Florida’s International transit hub
(Melbourne, FL) August 2024 — Award-winning metal experts Móz Designs , created a unique and engaging departure lounge environment for airport visitors at the Melbourne Orlando International Airport. In a design-build partnership with Haskell and RS&H, Inc., Móz created four custom backlit laser-cut metal round column covers featuring their signature Laser-Cut Stream pattern. The design reflects the appearance of sand, paying homage to Melbourne’s coastal location. The columns, standing 11 feet tall with a 28-inch diameter, were crafted in a Cream Metallic powder finish with color-changing LED lighting. This feature allows the columns to adapt to different color themes, such as airline branding, functions, or holidays. Additionally, the gate counters reflect Melbourne’s waterways with Móz’s Gradient Aurora metal panels.
“We selected Móz metals for their quality material durability, prioritizing design features that would withstand a high-traffic transit setting. The Laser-Cut Stream pattern was selected to emulate and bring in elements from the Florida space coast to emanate the natural habitat for travelers. The Gradient Aurora metal panel on the vertical portion of the gate counters perfectly captures the blue hues found in Melbourne’s waterways, including the Intracoastal Waterway, natural springs, and the Atlantic Ocean. The column’s backlit capabilities create opportunities for the Airport to modify the light with colors for customization throughout the travel seasons.” – Lien Phillips, Senior Aviation Designer at RS&H, Inc., lead architecture firm based in Jacksonville, FL.
In collaboration with Nudell Architects, Móz Designs completed the coastal design with storefront soffit facades in the Laser-Cut Stream pattern and Patina 132 color for cohesive aesthetics throughout the revitalized departure space. The integration of Móz’s modern and innovative products transformed the Melbourne Orlando International Airport into a place that reflects the natural beauty of the region while providing a modern and engaging environment for travelers. The combination of the Laser-Cut Stream pattern, the carefully selected coastal casual finish – and the design scheme has resulted in a cohesive and inviting atmosphere that enhances the overall passenger experience.
