The VIP Lobby of the T-Mobile Arena tells a cohesive story about the Las Vegas area and its contrasting influences through a dynamic design inspired by the energetic strip and the desert mountains.
AEG and MGM Resorts International completed and executed a joint venture to build a new arena with the goal of revitalizing the area between the New YorkNew York and Monte Carlo resorts, which extends from Las Vegas Boulevard to Frank Sinatra Drive. They selected Populous as the architect and designer of the new 20,000- seat indoor arena.
With the desert and Spring Mountains directly to the west and Las Vegas Boulevard to the east, the T-mobile arena was designed to capture juxtaposing facets of the Las Vegas landscape and meld them into an authentic expression of the city’s drama. Desert and mountain influences are expressed in the VIP lobby interior in the use of undulating metal panels of solid core aluminum that evoke the colors and sedimentary layers of the desert mountains.
The metal wall feature at the T-Mobile arena was made by combining Móz standard dimensional wall products and custom fabrication. Móz designed a new color, Blendz 476, to create an abstract desert landscape using waves of yellow, orange, and green printed on high quality sheet metal.
”We are committed to ensuring that Las Vegas retains its title as Entertainment Capital of the World for generations to come,” said Jim Murren, Chairman and CEO of MGM Resorts International. “The addition of this world-class arena, which will attract new events to the market and enable existing events to grow in scale, is an integral component in that strategy. No destination can deliver the level of energy and excitement found in Las Vegas, where every day has the vibe of a big event day.”
